Learning methods and personalities

Skills are normally acquired through a system of apprenticeship, whereby the apprentice learns the craft by doing.
Having a master to "shadow", a system to go by, or a set of rules to follow speeds up the process as we don't lose time meandering or experimenting with alternative ways. This removes some creativity out of the process and does away with the non-linear approach that often leads to fortunate findings.
Each of us is a unique individual with a distinct genetic makeup and one standard method might not be the answer, because it might favor some and hinder others.
It gets interesting when people start breaking the rules after they have acquired the fundamentals.
They discover better and more fitting ways that allow them to benefit more from the learning process, make it more fun and sometimes greatly shorten it.
People also tend to come up with systems that are more suited to their personality and their way of learning, but more often than not, they drop it to the favor of a more traditional, time tested and agreed upon method.
The conventional method is not always the best one, but we follow it under the pulling force of the herd.
