Empathy, the glue of society

As we try empathizing with people, we start to understand them better.
We don't get angry at the sluggish person walking in front of us anymore. We can see that they are not feeling well, instead of us thinking that they are trying to purposely slow us down.
We start also noticing opportunities.
That's how businesses start, they fill in a void and resolve issues.
All we have to do is to look around us empathically.
Internet, with all its communication platforms, made it even harder for us to be socially aware.
We shop online, we order food, we communicate with people through gadgets.
We could virtually get anything we want without setting foot outside.
As a result, we lose an important part of what makes us human.
Another contributing factor, is our desensitization to misery and hardship through overexposure to distasteful, harsh content.
As we become increasingly isolated behind screens and barraged with a constant stream of disturbing content, our capacity to empathize dwindles.
Sensationalized stories of conflict, tragedy, and outrage don't move us anymore.
Harsh content without meaningful human connection to process it make us emotionally numb.
We have lost the ability to pause, connect, and respond with compassion.
The technology that was designed to bring us together has turned us into a mass of strangers with weak societal bonds.
