That logic that makes us inhumane

The erosion of our humanity often begins with the appeal of pure logic divorced from empathy.
When we reduce complex human situations to cold calculations, and raw data on a lifeless projection board, we lose sight of the individual situations, struggles and dignity. This cold, mechanical thinking is prevalent into our institutions and our personal interactions.
It has transformed people into data points and reduced their experiences to algorithmic outputs.
The corporate executive who looks at layoffs merely as numbers on a spreadsheet, the bureaucrat who applies rules without considering circumstances, and the manager who takes decisions based solely on productivity metrics, demonstrate how logic without compassion can bring us below the level of the unthinking beast.
This dehumanizing logic often masquerades as objectivity and rationality. Emotions become weaknesses and consideration for individual circumstances are subordinated to the greater good, thus justifying the treatment of people as expendable resources.
This systematic prioritization of measurable outcomes and quantifiable metrics created environments where cruelty is packaged as progress and efficiency.
The antidote of this dehumanizing logic isn't the relinquishing of reason, but rather its mollifying through wisdom, empathy, and morality.
Logic should serve lofty values such of compassion, justice, and connection.
This requires us to see beyond the cold, inanimate data to see the complete picture that describes people's experiences.
When we keep in mind that each statistic represents a human life with hopes, fears, and values, our logic becomes a tool for building rather than destroying our humanity.
